#015 Good News!

Announcements: I’m going to be changing the format of the blog. From now on, I will primarily post articles instead of podcasts. I will occasionally post a podcast, for example, if I am interviewing a guest. Also, I want to let you all know that I experienced some type of malfunction with my email subscriber database and I have not been able to recover emails. If you would like to continue to receive emails, you will need to subscribe again. #014 Shifting for Purpose: I Moved!

Today, I’m back bringing you up to date on what’s been going on with me and why I was away for so long. If you follow the blog, you know that I have been on a journey to purpose and I’ve invited you along on my journey. #013 Journey to Purpose: Ordered Steps

I’m back! I know I have been away for quite some time now but if you will stay tuned over the next few weeks, I will fill you in on where I’ve been and what I’m doing now. It is going to be so exciting. I’m excited about what God is doing and I can’t wait to see what’s next. I sense a huge break is on the horizon for me and for you too. One of my goals today is to encourage my listeners that God is ordering our steps toward purpose. Sometimes we can endure difficult times and experience delays, rejections, denials, and silent treatments, which make us feel forgotten. Please know you are not forgotten and God will not disappoint. #008 Fit for Purpose

Are you fit for purpose? Are you prepared for the calling that is on Your life? Well, not to worry. Although God allows us to see bits and pieces regarding our destiny or calling, He never reveals the processes involved in arriving at the designated place. Sometimes processing can feel like you are “Jason and the Argonauts” and you have to past the 12 test of character to acquire the golden egg… or was it a golden fleece? I don’t really remember. You can think of any treasure hunt movie where the hero is trying to acquire an ancient artifact and there are sure to be some riddles, puzzling problems, test of character, and some dicey villain trying to derail you or prevent you from succeeding on your mission. This is certainly how we may feel sometimes on our journey to purpose. There are important reasons why God takes us through processing. In this week’s podcast we discuss the importance of going through and being a willing participant in the process.

“Purpose” Part 3 – A Personal Story of Uncovering Purpose w/ B. Doucette McCray

Everyone’s journey or story of uncovering purpose is different. Perhaps you have come to know your purpose in the kingdom in a unique way. Maybe you had a dream or a vision. Or perhaps someone spoke into your life with clear direction regarding your purpose. Or maybe you came to know your purpose through a trial, a hardship, or through an internal or external problem that needed to be resolved. Sometimes we can be intimated by others in our search. Oftentimes the enemy tells us, “God does not have a place for us in the kingdom, we are too old, or that we are inadequate or unworthy to be used by God.” The list goes on. The enemy definitely does not want us to walk, or even crawl for that matter, into purpose. Remember, how you start the journey or uncover purpose is not important: It is important that you start and finish the journey.

I am back with Part-3 in the series on “Purpose”. In Part 1, we addressed the question, Does God Have a Plan for My Life? In Part 2, we addressed the question, How Do I Uncover My Purpose? if you have not had a chance to listen to Part 1 and 2, I encourage you to take a minute and listen. #003 Purpose – Part 1: Does God Have a Plan for My Life

Hello All, Today’s podcast is part 1 in a series on “purpose”. For many of us, delayed answers to prayer about purpose leave us wondering, not only what our specific purpose is, but whether or not we have a purpose at all. If you’ve read my “About Me” page, you know the primary purpose of this blog is to exhort others toward purpose. To join others together in a journey for purpose. The reason we search for purpose is so we can fulfill our destiny before returning home to be with the Father forever. So, today in our podcast, we are answering the question, Does God have a plan for my life?  If you’re like me, lack of purpose has gripped or currently holds you in a state of unfulfillment, depression, and discouragement. I know what it is like to seek God for purpose over an extended period of time, to walk by faith for one Word, and sometimes still question if you are hearing God precisely. To begin this series, I want to start by exhorting and reassuring every listener that God does indeed have a plan for your life. I pray that the scriptures resonate with you today and that you will spend time meditating on the scriptures shared today.

  2. You must persistent in seeking God for your purpose (Jeremiah 29:13)
  3. God has already equipped you with everything you need to fulfill your purpose (Ephesians 1:3-11)

Caring for your Elderly Parents
Greetings All, thank you for visiting my blog, “Words that Matter”. I am excited to launch my blog page and I’m glad that you are here. If you want to get to know me, check out my “About Me” page. There you will learn why I started blogging and what I would like to share through my blog. As this is the launch of my blog and in honor of Mother’s Day, my first post will be about taking care of elderly parents. For me, I’m speaking of my mother. So read my first post below and don’t forget to like and comment. I appreciate any feedback that helps me improve my sight and the level of useful information for my subscribers. Since, I’m just starting, I’m sure I will be able to keep up with responses at this time. I hope the information this week is helpful. I will be adding a podcast this week on the topic of caring for parents. As you will note on my blog, I will organize my blogs into one of five categories. This post will be archived later under the purpose category because sometimes caring for parents becomes part of our purpose for a season.

Have you arrived at the transition in life where you are caring for a child you didn’t count on? No, not a child that you bore or adopted, but one that bore you. I’m talking about the season of life where maybe you’re in the prime of your career, advanced education, or you are preparing for retirement and find yourself having to care for and make some tough decisions concerning the welfare of your now elderly parent(s). The ones that cared for you. This is a time of tough decisions. Perhaps you gave up a lucrative career. Maybe you’ve made a great sacrifice in your just-me-and-him family unit. Oftentimes, we put our lives on hold to care for an elderly parent. It is no small sacrifice. You become the nurse, the secretary, the nutritionist, the maid. the accountant, and the one-on-one companion.
During this transition in life, it is imperative to have a friend, caregiver agency, or relative on hand to give you relief. Don’t try to be ‘Superwoman’. It is wise to seek and allow family members to assist during these times, particularly those that are willing to help. We worry if we are asking too much of our spouses, friends, and children in putting everything and everyone else aside to care for the person that cared for us and seemingly needs us the most.
Personal experience has taught me that providing a safe environment where your loved one can receive the care and attention they need is better in some cases. Depending on the mental age, level of self-help skills, and the level of supervision needed. Trying to take on all of these responsibilities over an extended period of time will definitely have its consequences for the caregiver and the family unit. Here are some tips if you find yourself in this transition of life:
1. Don’t try to be ‘Superwoman’
2. Guard against becoming the parent
3. Have a scheduled time for separations.
4. Plan regularly scheduled outings for spouse and children   without your elder parent
5. Ask for and accept offers of help from close friends and family members
6. Guard against bitterness AND guilt
7. When the time comes, prepare yourself for the inevitable fact that your parent may need more supervision and care than you are humanly possible of giving given circumstances like your own health, employment, prolonged deprivation of rest.
8. You must take care of you. After all, what will happen to mom/dad if you are sick or unable to care for them
9. Hug your parent(s) as often as you can
10. Pray for patience and strength!
